Welcome to Pally'Hi
Pally’Hi was founded on company owner Peter Bauer’s vision for performance oriented outdoor apparel made from the finest merino wool with a contemporary streetwear aesthetic. It’s Peter and the team’s mission to replace the often tired and predictable “expedition look” of existing merino wool clothing with a more casual and versatile product that can be worn with confidence every day. Pally’Hi garments have up-to-the-minute tailoring, real attention to detail and offer premium feel and comfort.
The new collection reinforces Pally’Hi’s commitment to combining the two worlds of streetwear and performance apparel. We’ve diversified our fabric offering by adding new merino wool blends that utilize the properties of other natural or hard-wearing fibers to enhance merino wool. With these new fabrics and even more fabric weights, we believe the collection meets the needs of the most demanding adventurers.
History
It was the summer of 1989 and whilst the world was watching the Soviet Union crumble, Batman was smashing box office records and cassettes of Duran Duran could be found in every Porsche 911 from New York to Berlin, Pally’Hi’s founder, Peter Bauer, was in New Zealand snowboarding with his team mates from Burton and legendary film maker Warren Miller.
During that trip Peter unknowingly invested in his first Merino T shirt, “Like any guy in his early twenties, I didn’t care about fabrics or performance; I probably just needed a clean shirt for a party that evening” said Peter. Two years later, after countless travels across the globe in search of World Cup gate bashing glory, it was time to retire his favorite T. Moments before throwing it in to the garbage, Peter thought to check the label for the fabric; there was something about this shirt that made it more comfortable than anything else he’d ever worn.
Fast forward to almost a quarter of a century later and Peter took the decision to act on a very personal need. “After that first encounter, through the nineties and noughties I wore a lot of merino. Occasionally the clothing came from sponsors and often I bought it from stores, the source of the merino changed regularly, but one thing every piece had in common was that I only ever wore it for exercise. To be honest I felt a little bit ridiculous in the tight fits and garish colors. I loved wearing merino wool, but I wanted styles and cuts that I could wear in social environments too”.
In 2013 Peter founded Pally’Hi, a merino apparel company born out of a very personal wish to have functional and fashionable clothing that would allow its wearer to go from the boardroom to the outdoors on a whim.
The Origin
Our sheep farmers take pride in the animals they rear in the rugged hills of New South Wales, Australia. It’s a tough, physical job and the weather never relents, but at least the sheep are comfortable. At Pally’Hi we spend our time and energy to do justice to the world-class merino wool they produce.
The Wool Lab
When production has finished for the day, our factories’ spinning and knitting machines are put to use creating new fabric blends that combine merino wool’s incredible properties with those of other natural fibers. We obsessively experiment with new blends of Merino wool with bamboo, coarse wool and small amounts of recycled materials to offer a range of fabrics for different needs.
The Products
Getting out of the office on time to beat the rush-hour traffic is the Holy Grail for any after dark ski and snowboard tourer. Reaching the car-park before the first tracks have been cut; picking a line through the cold night with little more than a head torch, moonlight and local knowledge is magical. Nobody plans for second tracks. Being second because the equipment did not deliver is even worse. Therefore we have been out on such afterwork adventures many evenings, testing new products to the max, getting the little details right, so our products meet the needs of the modern outdoor adventurers.
Backstage
Our Responsibility
We believe in a considered approach to decisions that impact our planet and the other people living on it. We are committed to using natural and recycled materials where possible. We only use wool from mulesing-free suppliers, because we care about the well-being of the sheep. Delivering our premium quality promise is important, so we only use AWTA certified merino wool which also guarantees staple length, diameter and fiber integrity. Our manufacturing partners are selected because of the positive way they treat their employees and their environmental standards. We endeavor to further reduce Pally’Hi’s footprint.
Why blend bamboo?
Bamboo, the exotic giant grass that probably props-up your runner beans, also makes a fantastic clothing fabric, as it is anti-bacterial, breathable and quick-drying amongst other benefits. Not only are the properties of bamboo streaks ahead of cotton and other plant fibers in terms of comfort and performance, growing it is as green as it gets! Bamboo grows naturally, without the need for pesticides, in areas with sufficient rainfall. Its crop yield density is 10x greater than cotton’s and bamboo is also extremely effective at absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere.
